At Numerica, our purpose is clear: to enhance lives, fulfill dreams, and build communities. When you join us, that’s our commitment to you.

When you become a member, you also help deliver this commitment to others. Numerica is a not-for-profit owned by its members. We work together to bring our core purpose to life for the people of Spokane, North Idaho, Tri-Cities, and Wenatchee.

Your Numerica membership also invests in these communities. (Check out our Annual Report for recent examples of Numerica’s core purpose in action.)

A purpose for all

Delivering on our core purpose requires more than good intentions. Numerica values differences. We know we are stronger together than alone.

Our end goal is to offer financial products and services that promote access, resiliency, and equity. To do this by design, we lean on the DEIBA framework (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility).

We work to make sure everyone has a seat at the table. We engage in conversations that foster respect for all people. We listen. We learn about our community’s heritage. We actively remove barriers. We believe nothing should stand in the way of extending honor and care for every human.

For more about Numerica’s DEIBA priorities, reach out to the Equity and Community Development team.

Numerica CARES for Kids

Learn More
Two kids holding hands and looking at the sunset

At Numerica, there are countless ways we put local love in action. But there’s one overriding focus to our give-back strategy: Numerica CARES for Kids.

Numerica CARES for Kids is the credit union’s long-term commitment to building brighter futures for youth and families in our communities. It is a movement and promise backed by action, financial investments, volunteerism, and expertise.

The Numerica CARES for Kids effort relies on strategic partners. We connect with nonprofits battling systemic issues that hold kids back. Food insecurity. Housing instability. Violence in the home. To make a long-term impact, we favor a holistic approach.

  • Intervention: Ensure the immediate safety and stability for youth in crisis.
  • Prevention: Engage upstream solutions so youth can achieve their dreams.

Hear From Leaders

Capitalizing on CARES

Numerica CARES for Kids features capital letters for a reason. CARES — Connect, Ask, Resolve, Elevate, Strengthen — is the set of guiding principles every Numerica team member lives by. We train with CARES. We lead with CARES. We celebrate CARES Champions every month.

When we decided to channel our philanthropic energy into helping local kids, the values were already vetted. It’s ingrained in our culture. This is how Numerica CARES.

The philosophy of “people helping people” unites credit unions. That’s what happened in the late 1930s, when local railroad workers pooled modest savings in support of one another. This birthed the organization known today as Numerica.

  • 1937: Workers representing the Great Northern Railway and the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway form the Great Northern Employees Credit Union, serving members from the Hillyard Depot in Spokane.
  • 1941: 44 workers from numerous railway companies form Railway Workers Credit Union by pooling a total of $120.
  • 1970: As consolidation sweeps the railroad industry, Great Northern and Railway Workers merge to form Spokane Railway Credit Union (SRCU).
  • 1982: SRCU amends its field of membership to include employees of shippers — by rail or by truck — and their family members.
  • 1990s: SRCU adopts a community charter. It expands over time to offer membership to anyone who lives, works, or worships in the state of Washington and North Idaho.
  • 1995: SRCU opens a branch in Coeur d’Alene, its first in Idaho.
  • 2000: To reflect its expanded membership base, SRCU changes its name to Numerica Credit Union.
  • 2003:Numerica begins serving the Wenatchee Valley community through a merger with North Central Credit Union.
  • 2004: Numerica enters Tri-Cities by building a branch in Kennewick. Locations in Pasco and Richland follow.
  • 2006: Numerica purchases the former Safeco Insurance building at 14610 E. Sprague Ave. in Spokane Valley. After extensive renovations, the credit union moves into its new headquarters in 2008.
  • 2011: CEO Dennis Cutter retires after 40 years leading the credit union. Numerica names the headquarters building after him.
  • 2011: Carla Cicero is named Numerica president and CEO.
